The fast paced first person shooter franchise is back with their latest sequel to the Modern Warfare series and this time it’s more intense and cut-scene based than ever!
You get sent straight into combat after a 30 minute opening cut scene that establishes you as a speechless, faceless, soldier working for a country. You watch as your character gets up, eats breakfast, gets stuck in airport security and then gets seated in the plane he just boarded. The next hour is the most intense gameplay I have ever watched in a game. Your character has to find out how to spend his time after his flight gets one delay after the other. The occasional quick time event causes the player to focus back on the action, whether its playing solitaire or trying to move over the two other people in your aisle so you can go to the bathroom (shouldn’t have picked the window seat).
Suddenly as you are reaching for the bathroom door handle 20 terrorists from Russia, Afghanistan, and another country that hates freedom burst out, knocking you to the floor. Suddenly the player is in control and gets to shoot everything and anything it his path. After wiping out the terrorists on the first level you move to the second level to try to get to the cockpit, but the plane starts to take off. The second level looks sort of familiar in terms of design but now all of the terrorists are zombies, forcing the player to aim for the head as opposed to firing randomly and hopefully hitting something.
Arriving in the cockpit you see the pilot is a terrorist zombie werewolf who is headed straight for one of the twin towers. After a cutscene in which you fight the said werewolfzombieterrorist, you realize you can’t do anything about the plane because you smashed the controls in said cutscene. So you hurl yourself out the front of the plane and jetpack into the nearest tower. You try shouting at people to get out of the building but you remember you can’t talk… and then realize that everyone is a vampire. You start running, staking any vampire foolish enough to attack you and jump out the window and zipline to the other tower right as the plane crashes into the building you just left.
More terrorists appear and you fight your way to the end of the building, watching as another plane approaches. Right before it hits, you jump out of the window again (yes its as suspenseful as it was the first time) only with terrorists jumping after you. Fortunately civilians had the same idea so you jump from flailing body to flailing body while shooting at the terrorists.
Unfortunately I did not get the DLC to finish the game but apparently there is a big twist that all the Russian agents are working for Afghanastan and all the Afghans are working for that other country and all the guys from the OTHER country are working for Canada who are mad at the US because they were beaten by them at hockey.
Overall the gameplay is the same as the original first game and the multiplayer hasn’t changed much either. I give it a 100% out of 10.
